Seafly 702 – Grace

My wife and I decided that we are regrettably too stiff and creaky to do justice to dinghy sailing, so after much deliberation we gifted Seafly 702 to our son Tim. Tim is a much more experienced and skilful sailor than me and is ex Laser and very keen. He did sail my previous Seafly from Swanage to Yarmouth (and back)in the early 90’s.

He has a young family and is getting to know and appreciate the Seafly’s capabilities. He is particularly impressed with how easily she planes on a close reach. Anyway he is just back from the Nationals at Blakeney and took his 13 year old son (Ben) as crew. They came about mid fleet in the results partly because of Ben’s lack of weight and experience, which meant that they didn’t use the spinnaker. By all accounts they greatly enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to next year. Tim also volunteered to be the Sec of the newly reformed Seafly Dinghy Class Association! They are based at Bosham Sailing Club on Chichester Harbour

We collected “Grace” CFly 702 yesterday from John Claridge. She is now resident at Poole YC. We only had time yesterday evening to rig the mast to get the cover on. Original plan was to sail today, but the weather prevented that, so in next few days we will take our time to familiarise ourselves with the rig and adjustments before venturing out.
