A Recent Seafly Design
Around the year 2010 a few new Seafly Dinghies were built by long time Seafly sailor Tony Longworth and Pete Lawson (both based near Ullswater in the English lake district). The two left hand images (above) are from their companies web site and the righthand image shows the interior of one of their hulls.
The new dinghy was available in Racing and Cruising versions, the above photos show the cruising version both with racing sails (borrowed from an older Seafly) and cruising sails, loose footed with slab reefing. For more photos of this Seafly look at the C2003 photo album accessed from the “Seafly register” pages. In 2009 Pete Lawson sailed a new Seafly (with borrowed sails) in the Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy races on Ullswater.
Poor health forced Tony Longworth to retire from sailing and building Seafly dingies at the end of 2012. The demonstration dinghy and moulds were sold to John Claridge Boats. Having successfully sailed the demonstration dinghy in the Royal Lymington Yacht Club handicap dinghy series, John Claridge has redesigned the cockpit layout and is now building a self-draining version of the Seafly – the Seafly SD.
